THE FLAG OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC

§ 5

(1) The flag of the President of the Republic is white with a border comprised of alternately white, red and blue flames. There is the Greater State coat of arms positioned in the centre of a white field. The white (silver) motto TRUTH PREVAILS on a red ribbon is underlaid with yellow (golden) linden branches and placed below.

(2) Portrayal of the flag of the President of the Republic is enclosed in the Annex 4 to this act.

TRUTH PREVAILS

The motto Truth prevails (Veritas vincit in Latin) is of historical origins that has appeared on the flag of the President of the Czechoslovak Republic since 30 March 1920 and on the flag of the President of the Czech Republic after termination of Czechoslovakia, respectively. A short time after the Velvet revolution 1989, between 1990 and 1992, the Latin version was used.

An expression “truth prevails” has appeared on the presidential flag as used in the letters by Master Jan Huss to Jan z Rejštejna from 1413 in those he wrote that “truth prevails all” and/or in his letter to the Prague University from the Konstanz jail in 1415: “Defend the discovered truth that prevails all and will rule for ever and ever”.
